I'm Jeanette and I'm running for President. Please take a moment to read if you haven't already voted. ABA should provide a common meeting ground for persons with an interest in this dance form, a supportive performance atmosphere, expand knowledge of this dance as an art form, offer special gatherings, serve, educate and benefit our area dance community. ABA has been that to some extent, but it can be more.
I want a working association for area bellydancers; an information and support center for Austin area dancers, as well as those visiting; an association that other dance forms look to; a true part of the dance and entertainment community. I want to raise ABA's visibility and general public's awareness of us. Greater awareness, greater interest equals more jobs, attendance at classes/shows, etc. I also want to raise ABA's visibility in the bellydance world.
To do that I want
Membership drive complete with prizes for current/new members for most sponsored members
ABA attendance at city functions/charity benefits, monthly performances at retirement homes, educational exhibitions at schools and health fairs
Student grants and teacher assistance for class/seminar tuition
Annual workshop (if not monthly/quarterly workshops) spotlighting all teachers of all styles of bellydance to include educational and not just movement classes with attendance free to members
Work with dance vendors as well as vendors relating to education, training, costuming and all around well being for a discount to members for those goods/services
Invite other dance and movement forms to participate in annual workshops
Bio and qualifications:
2-term President-member Mirage Dance Troupe 1988-2013(?)
Bellydance instructor at UT Informal 1989-present
Co-sponsor of Carousel Caravan and RaqStars (1987 and 1999 respectively to present)
Produced Shimmy into Spring from September 1993-2002
I'm very proud of my record as ABA President. Most things listed above I accomplished with the help of the officers, board, and members. I would love the privilege to raise ABA to that level and surpass it. I know everyone running for any office only wants the best for ABA but we need your help. Please vote.
